Lullabies and the city

Lullabies and the city. What I attempted to achieve through 「Lullabies」 is a harmony between things that are out of keeping with one another. These women sing lullabies, which are the most private songs they know, on the wide open street. The mixture of the contrasted elements and the confliction created in this unlikely scene are what I intended to capture. The lullabies are not only sung for their babies, but also for the city’s sleeplessness.
A true harmony should not absorb all the distinctions in itself which was what I originally thought. These are all women, but from different sides of the world. Their voices and the melodies they sing have something in common, but they are all still distinguishable from one another. The reason why I asked the women to sing at the same time was to let a mutual interference between their voices occur. In addition, I wanted to find something poetic in the city.
I hope a glimpse of a certain process of change can be seen through 「Lullabies」.
