Performer, feminista, activista, dj, trabajadora sexual, queer, pedazo de bestia política que es esta mujer. Ahora recién instalada en Berlín, ardo en deseos de volver a Alemania sólo para conocerla.
My performances take the over-sexualized, often misrepresented female body and use it in unconventional and subversive ways. The performances incorporate the elements of lip sync, f2f drag, spoken word, burlesque, and pop music, and attaching to them outlandish character performance and storytelling. The performances mimic a plethora of over-exaggerated female characters – from drag queens, to the archetypal arab divas and muslim mamas to raunchy sex worker robots, in a style that is either grotesque or gut-wrenching. The performances have been described as racy, shocking, messy, borderline- dangerous, touching and completely unforgettable.
For the past decade, I’ve lived in israel-palestine, where my life has placed me on the frontier of several groundbreaking issues – amongst them are the joint israeli-palestinian struggle against the israeli occupation and israeli apartheid, the movement for the rights of sex workers, and the establishment of a queer community in the the middle east. These things have shaped some parts of how I see the world as well as influenced my work as a performer. Just as in my political life, my performances challange the audience to critically examine the world that they live in. Through performance I frequently deal with issues such as state control, colonialism, orientalism and the western concept of ‘salvation’ from non-western, under-developed, and muslim countries. Likewise, notions of viewing queerness, transexuality, sex work and gender roles through western-supremacist white lenses are also examined and challenged in the performances. while often political, my performances are rarely politically-correct, taking a no-hold-barred attitude and unabashedly shames and makes fun of just about everyone, but first and foremost – of myself.
