Sex work and the Olympics

Sex work and the Olympics

The 2012 Olympic Games are already having quite an impact on sex workers in East London. There have been lots of brothel closures over the last 12 months which have caused problems. Some of the problems are:

Flats are forced to close and then re-open with fewer or no security arrangements in place.
Women are working alone and are more vulnerable to robbery, rape and sexual assault.
Women are losing touch with sexual health and support services.

Open Doors staff are seeing fewer sex workers in their workplace but thankfully women are still managing to come into our clinics and phone us for support if they need it.

If your flat has been closed, please don’t lose touch with us. We still want to offer you services and support.

During the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the summer of 2012 there will be significant disruption to travel and transport in East London. As a result Open Doors will set up a temporary service – watch this space for more information.
